The „ST. PETERSBURG VIRTUOSEN“ bring together flexible and work-oriented soloists directed by Pjotr Meshvinski. The ensemble masters a broad repertoire of classical music ranging from solo pieces to pure chamber music and works for chamber orchestra. The ensemble's interpretation of classical music enjoy a strong international echo, as shown by the partnership of the ST PETERSBURG VIRTUOSEN with a number of international artists such as Ingo Metzmacher, Victor Tretyakov and Gert Westphal. The origins of the „ST. PETERSBURG VIRTUOSEN“ go back to the times of the Soviet-American Youth Orchestra, which went on world tour lead by Zubin Mehtas in 1988. It was in those days that the idea was born to create a separate ensemble, and the „ST. PETERSBURG VIRTUOSEN“ were founded by a group of artists in 1989, when they had participated in the very successful tour of Germany of the German-Soviet Philharmonic Orchestra lead by Valery Gergiev. Since 1991, the artists of the „ST. PETERSBURG VIRTUOSEN“ live and work in Hamburg. Very soon, they became a major name in German classical music, performing in Bremen, Kiel, Hamburg and the Berlin Philharmonic. They took part in music festivals such as Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the "Kissinger-Summer". Internationally, the „ST. PETERSBURG VIRTUOSEN“ also rapidly gained fame, participating annually in musical events in Marseilles and in Geneva since 1995. In 1996, they undertook a tour of South-East Asia and played in Luxemburg in 1998. In 1999, they were invited to perform in Singapore and Norway. That year also, they participated in the Bodensee-Festival in Lindau and began to organize their own series of concerts and musical events in Hamburg and Quedlinburg. One cultural event which was presented in Hamburg, Kassel, Quedlinburg and Lindau, was organized together with Gisela and Gert Westphal and combined music and literature. In the winter of 2001, the ensemble made its debut at the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. In the near future, music lovers in Saint Petersburg, Hamburg, Geneva and other major cities will be able to enjoy new performances by the „ST. PETERSBURG VIRTUOSEN“. |
